Driving Instructors

Many people think of becoming driving instructors seeing it as an easy career move. Regrettably, according to the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) only about 5% of those who start the training fully qualify as driving instructors.

Any form of testing that has a 95% failure rate shows either that the qualification is particularly difficult to achieve, the people applying are not suited to the career or that the instructor training is poor. All are true, if you want to become a driving instructor you must be fully committed to putting in the time and effort to achieve the qualification. You also have to be the right type of person, if not, even if you do qualify you will not enjoy the work. Lastly a lot of instructor training is poor.

If you want to qualify as a driving instructor you have two options. You can go to one of the national schools who will charge a non refundable fee. If you fail either of the first two exams you will not get any of your training fee back. If you do pass your second test you will be expected to take up a franchise, and teach pupils whilst you are qualifying. You will also be expected to pay a franchise fee for the use of a car and the pupils supplied to you, this can amount to £300 per week and there is no guarantee that you will be given any pupils.

Your other option is to use QED and pay on a per lesson basis. We have a unique method of training that allows you to develop your own teaching style. Because of the way that the DSA tests driving instructors many trainers will only teach candidates how to pass the tests not how to teach people to drive.

Throughout the training you will be able to build a bank of resources that you can use when you qualify as an instructor. Every session will be geared towards your eventual career you will be helped to write lesson plans and develop your own teaching resources. By the time you are qualified you will be familiar with your lesson plans and your teaching resources leaving you to deliver high quality training to your pupils whether you take up a franchise or set up your own business.
